The Sun Safety Alliance is “dedicated to reducing the incidence of skin cancer in America” and provides the public with a website full of practical, easy to apply information. In addition to basic sun safety guidelines, the site offers coloring pages for kids of all ages, Spanish materials, and a link to a UV index alert guide. The UV index lets you type in your current location and gives you the daily forecast in terms of potential damage from UV rays. This tool is especially useful if you’re planning an outdoor event, wondering when the best time is to work out or walk your pet, or simply wanting to be outdoors to soak up a few minutes of low UV sun to fulfill your Vitamin D intake. No matter what your reason, always check and try to spend most of your time outdoors when the index reads “low” to moderate”.
