Our Clinic


Diablo Clinical Research is an independent research site located in Walnut Creek, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our dedicated research site has conducted over 600 studies involving potential new medications and devices for a variety of health conditions. With a patient database of over 13,000 and growing, we are able to draw from a broad range of people to participate in and benefit from our studies.

We provide top quality care for our patients and reliable data to our pharmaceutical sponsors.

Each research study we conduct is performed in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonization of Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) standards. We support the research work of all major pharmaceutical companies as well as many small biotech companies.

Our caring and committed staff of physicians and professional research coordinators have over 90 years of collective research experience. Our physicians, or clinical investigators, come from many areas of medical expertise including endocrinology, cardiology, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and rheumatology. Our growing staff includes certified research coordinators, registered nurses, laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, dieticians, regulatory specialists, and a dedicated marketing and recruitment team.

Our Facility

Diablo Clinical Facility

Founded in 1995 by Dr. Richard L. Weinstein, Diablo Clinical Research is a state of the art, 16,000 sq. ft. clinical research facility located 1/2 mile from a regional hospital and 2 miles or less from major transportation lines. On site, Diablo Clinical Research has:

  • YSI 2300 Glucose/Lactate Analyzer
  • Fully equipped specimen processing lab
  • Refrigerated centrifuge
  • -20 C and -70 C freezers
  • Welch Allyn electrocardiogram machine

  • Sensory neuropathy testing equipment with QST technician on staff

  • Locked and temperature-controlled drug storage (refrigerated and ambient), continuously monitored with daily temperatures logged in addition to min/max for refrigerated and ambient drug storage

Clinical Investigators

Richard L. Weinstein, MD
Executive Medical Director, Endocrinologist

As founder of Diablo Clinical Research, Dr. Weinstein has been principal investigator in over 400+ clinical trials and has experience in protocol writing and consultation on protocol design.

Leonard Chuck, MD, PhD
Co-Medical Director, Internist

Dr. Chuck has been with Diablo Clinical Research since 2006 as a sub-investigator and in 2007 he became co-medical director of our facility and principal investigator for many of our studies. Prior to joining Diablo Clinical Research, Dr. Chuck was in community practice for twenty years as an internist.

Mark P. Christiansen, MD
Co-Medical Director, Endocrinologist

Dr. Christiansen has been a sub-investigator and principal investigator with Diablo Clinical Research since 2007. He is an expert and specializes in glucose clamp studies. He also maintains his private practice in Pleasanton.

Helen Lee Stacey, MD, M.P.H.

Dr. Stacey, a Sub-Investigator with Diablo Clinical Research since 2000, is an Internist with a Masters of Public Health. Before joining Diablo Clinical Research, she practiced general internal medicine with Muir Primary Care, a division of John Muir Medical Center.

Lambert H.K. Chee, MD
Cardiovascular Specialist

Dr. Chee is a Sub-Investigator for Diablo Clinical Research. His position as Invasive and Interventional Cardiologist held for 20 years at the Diablo Cardiology Medical Group affirmed his expertise in cardiac catheterization and coronary arteriography, percutaneous balloon angioplasty, permanent pacemaker insertion, exercise stress testing and echocardiography, as well as critical care management of patients with cardiovascular problems.  He is also a member of the National Lipid Association.
