Helpful Hints for Diabetics During the Holidays

Helpful Tips for Diabetics During the Holiday and Vacation Season

  • Don’t skip meals and/or snacks. Do not try to “save up” calories because skipping  meals will lead to erratic blood sugar levels.

  • Plan AHEAD! The more you know about what's going to happen, the better you   can plan for good diabetes care.

  • Have a very small portion of a regular dessert with your meal. Digesting the dessert with the rest of the meal will help prevent a big spike in your blood sugar levels.

  • Vacations don’t give us license to skip exercise routines. Sticking with your regular exercise will help stabilize your bloods sugar levels.

  • Sit far from buffet tables, candy dishes and cookie-laden platters.

  • Chew sugarless gum or a breath mint to prevent picking.

  • Use less sugar when preparing your family get-together favorites.

  • Prevent fatigue by getting eight hours of sleep each night.

  • Drink water. Water is a healthy, no-calorie beverage.
